How Depression Can Affect Both Mind and Body
Many people make the mistake of confusing sadness with depression. While it is true that pain can trigger depression, two conditions are entirely different moods. It is almost impossible, if not impossible, to avoid different things in life that bring pain to them. And the death of a pet or a loved one divorce, loss of job or even a simple disagreement with a friend, the pain is a fact of life. However, over time, reduce pain. The problem is that with depression, although it can be triggered by sadness, it can operate independently of pain. In other words, is a condition that can strike at any time and does not depend on events?
Depression has a negative effect on the patient and his environment. In fact, if the worst depression can lead to suicide as a result of devastating emotional consequences of loved ones left behind. For those who suffer from depression, this condition can be triggered and lead to feelings of guilt and worthlessness. It is like falling into an abyss of darkness where no matter what you do, you feel you cannot get out of negative thinking. He is the only time it is perfectly possible to experience complete and total lack of joy.
As science moves forward, scientists are continually finding evidence of how the mind can influence the body. This is certainly true of depression, which whilst appearing to be a state of mind, has been proved to have consequences on the physical body.
For a sample studies have shown that people suffering from depression are more likely to contract some sort of disease, as depression changes one's natural immune defences.
There is also compelling evidence that people who develop depression are twice as likely to suffer some form of heart disease. This makes depression almost as dangerous as smoking.
It is even now thought that depression can cause dementia. This is because depression can cause poor memory and a reduction in concentration, which when serious can mimic dementia.
It's also been found that depression, whilst in itself a form of emotional pain, can also cause physical pain in the form of arthritis or back pain. Research is still ongoing and it is still not certain as to how depression relates to physical pain but it is a fact that some people will complain of a variety of different sorts of physical pain, only to find that they are in fact clinically depressed.
